Folens is a leading educational publisher in Ireland, dedicated to delivering high-quality learning resources for schools, educators, and students. Their work centres on producing and supplying textbooks, digital platforms, and a wide range of curriculum support materials across multiple subjects and educational stages.

Project Overview

Folens partnered with eStation to introduce EV Charging facilities at their Dublin office, alongside managed home charging solutions for employees.

The brief focused on developing a practical, scalable system that would:

  • Maximise cost efficiencies associated with operating an EV fleet through managed home and workplace charging
  • Provide convenient access to public charging networks for staff
  • Evaluate charging requirements for both residential and office environments
  • Deliver a solution that meets current demand while allowing for future expansion
  • Identify the most suitable charging specifications for employee usage
  • Ensure a straightforward and consistent user experience across all charging locations

Our Approach

The initial phase involved assessing employee driving patterns and charging behaviours. This enabled us to determine the expected balance between home, workplace, and public charging. We also reviewed the electrical capacity at the office to establish what infrastructure could be supported.

For home installations, we supplied SIM-enabled chargers capable of remote monitoring and management. This allows accurate tracking of charging activity, enabling automated reimbursement of electricity costs without requiring employee input.

At the workplace, we implemented a system using Dynamic Load Management to optimise energy distribution. This ensured a cost-efficient setup while minimising the need for significant electrical upgrades.

In addition, employees were given access to a wide public charging network, covering the majority of charge points nationwide. This roaming capability allows users to activate chargers easily, without needing to make payments on-site, as all transactions are centrally managed by eStation.
